St. Martinville

St. Martinville, on the Bayou Teche, sixteen miles south of Breaux Bridge, and eighteen miles southeast of Lafayette, is the heart of Cajun country.  The city’s economy is supported by tourism and agriculture, with crawfish and sugarcane its primary crops.

Evangeline Park and the Evangeline Oak, made famous in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, "Evangeline," stand along the bank of the Bayou Teche.  The park has been one of the long-lasting popular destinations in St. Martinville.
